studying = music time

Tis the season of midterms. For all you unlucky students out there who are desperately cramming facts and figures into your poor over-stuffed head right now, this post is for you!

When it comes to choosing the music I'm going to listen to study, it varies depending on the subject, time of day, and my overall concentration level (which always seems to be very low). My studying music varies from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to KO KO to Drake. In general, picking the right music is almost an art: finding a balance of creating a studying playlist that is stimulating enough to prevent you from drifting off to dreamland, yet having songs that are chill/mellow enough that you don't get too distracted by the lyrics.

When it comes to the real dry stuff, or very mathematical and techy studies, I tend to listen to instrumental movie scores. Usually an underrated form of music, movie scores can sometimes become insignificant if not paired with its visual counterpart. However, if composed right, a movie score can become the perfect studying song.

For those of you who watched Wreck-It-Ralph (great movie, am I right?), which by the way is not just a movie for kids, the movie followed a Walt Disney short called Paperman. The score by Christophe Beck (The Hangover, Crazy, Stupid, Love, and Red) was one of the most artfully crafted scores I've heard. Happy studying, nerds!
